What is Mindfulness?

According to mindfulness teacher, Jon Kabat-Zinn, “Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.” Mindfulness is about being curious, open-minded, and compassionate.

Why are we having this class?

Numerous studies show that mindfulness helps to alleviate symptoms associated with depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain, high blood pressure, and much more.

The intention:

The goal of this 4-week class is to share mindfulness skills to help individuals be present with their minds and bodies. Learn techniques to train the mind how to pay attention to the present moment and expand awareness. Gain skills to be more present with yourself, to meet the mind and body with curiosity and compassion.

This mindfulness class is for everyone:

It is important to honor that mindfulness has its roots in Eastern spiritual traditions. Yet this will be a secular class. All spiritual beliefs and faith practices are welcomed. I ask all participants to respect one another’s beliefs. There is not going to be one “right way” to practice mindfulness during the course of this class. The course is intended to provide material suitable for both the beginner with zero mindfulness experience as well as the seasoned mindfulness practitioner.
