Let’s be real: living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) can feel like starring in a medical drama you did not audition for. One minute you're fine, the next your leg won’t move, or your words come out scrambled, and someone’s Googling “stroke symptoms” on your behalf.
Welcome to the confusing, frustrating, often misunderstood world of FND. If you’ve ever thought, Is this all in my head? Am I making this up?—you are definitely not alone. (Also: no, and no.)
Functional Neurological Disorder is a symptom of trauma, often sexual trauma. FND causes symptoms that mimic neurological issues—like paralysis, tremors, or speech difficulties—but without the underlying brain injury. It's diagnosed by a Neurologist and treated in psychotherapy, because, again, it's trauma-related. It’s like your body’s system is glitching, and it can leave you feeling confused, frustrated, and isolated.
That’s why I host a virtual support group for folks with FND—a 60-minute gathering for people who want to talk honestly about this weird, overwhelming, totally real disorder, with others who actually get it.
In our group, we’ll talk about:
The strange relief of finally getting an FND diagnosis (even if no one else seems to know what it is)
How to cope when your body suddenly does things you didn’t authorize (hi, twitching limbs and vanishing words)
Big scary feelings like “I’m losing my mind”—and how to keep your cool when your nervous system decides to freak out unprovoked
The joy of trying to explain FND to a doctor who Googles it in front of you
Practical tools for managing symptoms, stress, and the emotional whiplash of it all
Plus, we’ll explore grounding strategies that can help you feel more in control—even when your body’s doing its own thing.
Details:
🌀 Bimonthly virtual group -- the next meeting will be on Wednesday, July 23rd from 4 - 5 PM EST
⏳ 60 minutes of validation, connection, and nervous system support
🙋🏻♀️ Facilitated by me, Hannah Kanter, LICSW, LMSW—a therapist who helps folks navigate FND, trauma, and the what-is-happening-to-my-body spiral.
If you're tired of feeling alone with your symptoms, tired of being dismissed, or just tired (because: FND), I hope you’ll join us. This group is a space where it’s okay to be messy, overwhelmed, and still healing.
